We arrived at Worfield village Hall in Shropshire excited by the beauty of the hall. It is like a Tardis inside, and the instant feel of the place is relaxation. If you are a creative person, this venue is right up your street as it allows you to come up with a bespoke wedding just perfectly personalised to you as a couple.

This weekend’s wedding was the traditional village hall wedding of Lucy and Phil at Worfield Village Hall in Shropshire. Here is their story and a preview of the day.

How they met

Phil & I met on my first day at University back in 2005 when we were both 18 years old. He’d been at uni for 1 day and it was my very first. I remember it so clearly as I bumped into him accidentally and we got talking. It was in Plymouth near the coach station entrance (classy!) and we could both take you back to that very spot.

We started dating whilst we were in our first year at Uni and in March 2015; we celebrated our 9 year anniversary.

The wedding proposal

It was certainly a proposal to remember! I guess the first thing you need to know is that we’re both into fitness and long distance running. We were on holiday in Amsterdam in October 2013 we were there to run the Amsterdam marathon. Phil is an incredibly fast runner and finished two hours in front of me.

The marathon had set times which runners had to meet or they would stop you from completing the run (as you were too slow and they needed to open the roads). For Amsterdam Marathon the cutoff point was 6 hours, and I always doubted if I could get that time–to where I’d prepared to argue with the marshalls in dutch to carry on & finish the race. To my complete surprise I finished the marathon well within the time and I immediately broke into tears in utter shock that I had completed it.

Phil met me on the track of the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium and got down on one knee and proposed. It turned out that he had carried the engagement ring the full way around the marathon course in his pocket. He’d also spent two hours worrying about me, thinking I would not finish because of the time restrictions.

After we got engaged, we kept it quiet (i.e. didn’t announce it on Facebook until a month later) as we wanted to tell as many people who are the closest to us, first hand so we could share the moment with them. We had a month of seeing family, close friends and colleagues to share the news before broadcasting it further.

Their Wedding Vison

Phil & I are in love with the countryside and our vision for the wedding is for an informal countryside-chic wedding. I also wanted the day to feel like a farm party (much like the Horse Whisperer)

When we found Worfield Village hall, it was after looking at barn conversion and other unique venues. The hall is a blank canvas for us and we were told that we could do whatever we wanted just so that we give it back in the same condition as it gave us it. I’m into crafts and sewing and I wanted to make many of the decorations home made & personal to me.

After deciding on the hall, we were on the lookout for a church to marry in nearby and spotted the spire of St Peter’s church in the distance. I completely fell in love with St Peter’s Church and Worfield’s high street. There were old phone boxes, Tudor buildings and flower beds creeping into the road. The village is rife with history and it took one look between each other and we both knew we found Worfield as our venue.

Being in the middle of the countryside, it’s very inaccessible, so we’re providing coach transportation for our guests to get from the nearest large town (Telford) to and from the village. We really wanted our guests to relax and enjoy the day without worrying about how to get there / get back to their hotels.

We have photographed many Shropshire weddings. Check out our latest Shropshire wedding at the Hundred House Hotel.
