How to Make Your Wedding Photos Look Even Better:

7 Tips from a Photographer

Tip 1: Prioritise Natural Light

Good lighting is everything in photography and will make your wedding photos better. The best wedding photos are typically taken in natural light, especially later in the day when the light softens. Schedule portraits for this time if possible, and try to limit your alcohol consumption before this session. Additionally, schedule a hair and makeup check with a trusted friend later in the day, and choose well-lit rooms for your morning preparation.

Tip 2: Choose a Photographer Whose Style You Love

It may sound obvious, but it’s crucial. Don’t choose a photographer based on price alone; choose someone whose style (natural, elegant, romantic, candid) matches your vision. When you love their work, you’ll trust them, which leads to more relaxed, beautiful images.

Tip 3: Keep Your Getting Ready Space Tidy

Your getting-ready photos are full of emotion, laughter, and excitement. Don’t let clutter distract from that. Assign someone to keep the space clean and light-filled, especially near windows where your photographer will likely shoot.

Tip 4: Trust the Process (and Your Photographer)

Let go of trying to control every moment. The most stunning wedding photos come when you’re immersed in the moment. Trust your photographer to direct when needed and capture the magic when it happens naturally. This is one of my most important wedding photography tips.

Tip 5: Allow Time for Portraits

Build a little breathing space into your timeline for portraits. Even 20–30 minutes of calm, unhurried time together after the ceremony can result in some of your favourite images, the ones that feel real, elegant, and entirely ‘you.’

Tip 6: Consider an Unplugged Ceremony

Phones and iPads in the aisle can spoil otherwise perfect shots. An unplugged ceremony keeps the moment sacred and your photos clean, emotional, and timeless. Ask your officiant to make a gentle announcement.

Tip 7: Book a Photographer Who Makes You Feel Comfortable

This is more important than most couples realise. The best photos come when you feel safe, confident, and like yourself. Meet with your photographer, ask questions, and make sure it’s someone who brings out your best energy.

Final Thoughts

The most beautiful wedding photos aren’t just about the venue, the dress, or the details; they’re about emotion, connection, and presence. These tips will help set the stage, but the real magic comes from simply living the day and trusting the team you’ve chosen. I hope you have enjoyed the wedding photographer advice from the UK.
